PM Narendra Modi Arrives in the US for Quad Summit, Meets Indian Diaspora and Prepares for Key Talks with President Biden
Delaware, September 22, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the United States for a high-profile visit, which includes a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden and his participation in the Quad Summit. The prime minister landed in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora at Hotel duPont, reflecting the strong ties between the Indian community and the nation’s leadership.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared his excitement about the visit, saying, “The Indian community has distinguished itself in the USA, making a positive impact across diverse sectors. It’s always a delight to interact with them.” Modi will also address the Modi&US event in New York City at 9:30 PM IST on Sunday, marking an important moment in his engagement with the Indian diaspora.

One of the key highlights of the visit is PM Modi’s bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden, set to take place at 10:30 PM IST on Sunday. This meeting will be the last before President Biden’s term ends after the US Presidential elections. The two leaders are anticipated to preside over the signing of major agreements, including a multi-billion dollar transaction for India to purchase 31 Predator drones from the United States. Additionally, discussions about an India-US space collaboration will likely result in an announcement related to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s participation in the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station.

President Biden, in his own post on X, shared, “Today, I’ll welcome Prime Ministers Albanese, Modi, and Kishida to my home: Delaware. These leaders are not only vital for maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific, but they are also my friends and allies of our country.”

The Quad Summit, hosted by President Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, will bring together the leaders of India, the United States, Australia, and Japan. The summit will center on key issues including the security and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, and the concerns of the Global South.

While China’s presence in the Indo-Pacific is expected to be a topic of discussion, US National Security Adviser emphasized that “the Quad is not about one country. It is about a larger vision we’re all trying to work for – a free and open Indo-Pacific.” The leaders will focus on policies to enhance regional stability rather than singling out any particular nation.

Ahead of the Quad Summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend a mega event in New York City on Sunday, titled Modi&US, at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The event is expected to draw thousands from the Indian-American community, showcasing their vital role in strengthening the relationship between the two nations.

PM Modi’s engagement with the Indian diaspora remains a core part of his US visit, underscoring the importance of the Indian community’s contributions across sectors in the US.

Defense Collaboration: India’s acquisition of 31 Predator drones from the US as part of a multi-billion dollar deal.
Space Collaboration: An expected announcement about Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission to the International Space Station as part of the Axiom-4 project.
Indo-Pacific Strategy: Strengthened cooperation among Quad nations to ensure peace, progress, and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

PM Modi will also attend the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly in New York, where global leaders will discuss pressing issues facing the world. His roundtable with CEOs of top American technology firms will further highlight India’s role in the global tech sector.

As this visit unfolds, PM Modi’s discussions with President Biden and other Quad leaders will likely set the tone for future collaborations between India and the US, especially in defense, space, and regional security.
